The Region VI CRP-RCEP hosts a regional employment conference every two years in accordance with our grant mandate. In the past, we have held conferences in San Antonio, TX; Tulsa, OK; and Dallas, and co-hosted conferences with University of New Orleans TRAC in New Orleans, LA and with Region VIII via satellite. Frequently our conference activities produce information and materials beneficial to CRPs. Click on the link above for a complete history of CRP-RCEP conferences in Region VI.

In order for community rehabililtation personnel to keep abreast of new initiatives and developments in rehabilitation, it is important to network with other professionals in the field. To facilitate that for CRPs in Region VI, we have developed a calendar of regional and national conferences with a link to the conference home page for additional information.

Region VI CRP-RCEP Conference History

The Region VI CRP-RCEP hosts an employment conference every two years. You may remember our 2001 conference: Building Employment Foundations: Blueprints & Tools held in Dallas, Texas at the Fairmont Hotel. Since then, we have collaborated with Louisiana on a self-employment conference, Orchestrating Entrepreneurship: Successful Self-employment Programs for People with Disabilties held in New Orleans, Louisiana in June 2003.

The enthusiasm at this conference was so contagious that attendees wanted to continue the dialogue after the conference. We decided to facilitate that, so, along with the presenters Cary Griffin and Dave Hammis, (Griffin-Hammis Associates, LLC), we set up a discussion board following the conference for the continued sharing of ideas on the topic of self-employment for people with disabilities.

Our most recent conference held in August 2003 was another collaborative project between Region VI and Region VIII in Denver, Colorado and it was presented via satellite. Community Rendezvous 2003: Creating Employment Opportunities Together was a totally new endeavor for Region VI. The conference was structured for satellite to address the travel restraints of CRPs in the region imposed by the nation-wide budget shortfall of FY2003. This format was such a success that future employment conferences may also be presented via satellite with follow-up information, materials, and even discussion boards available through this website.
