We have gone to this format to provide you even more options to get the training you want. For example, if you can’t get to the January happening, you can now determine exactly when (and where) that event next occurs. And, with our online registration, you can enroll whenever you are ready. (Remember, some of our events have a limit set on enrollment . . . and some fill-up quickly). And finally, it allows you to schedule your training so it has less chance to compete with other issues. We are very excited about doing our training this way. We hope it gives you the opportunity to select from a larger menu, and to, hopefully, schedule events in a logical order to fit your needs. This year’s events have several “familiar” faces: The Certificate in Employment Services; Marketing Bootcamp; Management & Leadership 103; and Substance Abuse and Employment. Some of the events have a “new” face: Supported Employment Basic Skills Clinic has been retooled and is now Essential Skills for Supported Employment Providers. With the name change comes a focus on the essentials, with a new course (Job Coaching Strategies and Natural Supports) becoming the obvious sequel. With this we feel you will get directly to what you need, and in a comprehensive way. And, there are entirely new faces in the 2005 Training Calendar. We will begin offering 5 new events: Assistive Technology, Vocational Strategies for Specific Disabilities, Effective Individualized Assessment and Planning, Transition School-to- Work, and Facilitating Employment for People with Mental Illness: Recovery-based Employment Services. These were developed as a result of your input and requests. Finally, don’t miss our region-wide conference on Evidence-based Practices for the Employment of Persons with Mental Illness, to be held June 15-16, 2005 in wonderful Albuquerque, New Mexico. The headliner for this event is Dr. Judith Cook, a nationally known expert on evidence-based employment practices. A QUICK LOOK AT THE NEW TRAININGS Vocational Strategies for Specific Disabilities: This training, led by Sarah Skorpil, looks at a variety of disabilities and our response to them as vocational consultants. Vocational strategies, potential accommodations, and intake/assessment techniques are among the topics covered. Transition: School-to-Work: This training program with Jim Hanophy is designed to help CRPs, VR counselors, family members, advocates and school personnel identify and overcome the typical barriers to a successful transition. Assistive Technology: In this training program Sarah Skorpil discusses techniques for choosing the appropriate techno-solutions for clients so they have a greater opportunity to get the job they want. Facilitating Employment for People with Mental Illness: Recovery-based Employment Services: Dan O’Brien reviews the evidence-based techniques that are effective in supporting competitive work as an integral part of recovery. Effective Individualized Assessment & Planning: This one-day, interactive training focuses on the need for, the benefits of, and the techniques for developing a comprehensive community-based narrative assessment and an individualized marketing plan for consumers. We realize this is a too-brief description of our trainings. More information can be obtained on our website, www.crp.unt.edu, or by calling us at (940) 565-4000. In 2005, UNT will begin issuing certificates with national recognition from the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators. This will be an evolving process in the next few years. An ACRE Basic Certificate requires 40 hours of training on selected topics. Any of the UNT trainings / workshops will count toward this certification. Watch for further details in our publications.
